While it’s easy to LOLMets this, I do love stories of baseball lifers. It reinforces the depth of history of this game. He faced Ted Williams as a rookie, and walked him.

It seems like the difference between successful NFL kickers and bad NFL kickers is 99% mental, 1% physical. (At that level, the physical margin of difference between the best and worst kicker is probably minimal. They could all kick our asses.) So making the double-doink a mental thing, seems like terrible management

I would watch a show about Brad Radke discussing every home run he gave up. CHIHUAHUA!

I was half expecting Jesus to show up like Batman, or a wrestler doing a run-in with a steel chair. “CHANGE MONEY IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD AND BRAWL AT A LITTLE LEAGUE GAME UNLEASHES ANGRY JESUS.” (But millions dying of wars and other man-made catastrophes, not a peep.)

There’s a great old podcast between Bill Simmons and Bill Walton, where Walton gets into this very thing about the development of children. Kids who are too structured are never given space to develop the creativity.

I’ve met Romney a few times over the years. He has the charisma of a frozen filet of fish that is trying to sell you a car. He’s a very odd person.

What is the sound of one person fapping?

A buddy of mine decided he wanted the experience of a small liberal arts college. He was interested in communications and thus picked Bethany College (alma mater of Frances McDormand) in Bethany, WV. I went to college in DC, and hitched a ride one weekend with a college classmate who was going home to Pittsburgh. My

I took advantage of a really cheap fare to Ireland once on a mainline US airline. I fly that airline for business a lot, so I have status. It was Thanksgiving morning (a family member had passed a few months earlier , so everyone in the family wasn’t too keen on celebrating the holidays that year) and I had to take a

That’s fair. There probably is an English language narrative bias. There probably is a generational bias too. It’s been 40 years! since the last Montreal-Toronto playoff series, and I’d bet when those teams meeting the playoffs next time, all the old antipathy will come back. (I remember there was a softening for my

I see it as a ranked choice model. In any given season the general preferred outcomes of the an NHL season.

Just got home from the game. Congrats to the Blues and their fans. Enjoy, it’s gonna be a fun summer.

Room-mate shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo

This comment. With no special insight, it seems that consistency in kicking is more psychological than physical (ie not about leg strength, but repetition of technique) similar to a golf swing. Adding an unnecessary psychological component, just seems stupid.

That is very, very fair.

The Red Sox won the World Series last year, their fourth since 2004. Yes, no one likes to see mediocre baseball, especially with an expensive and talented team, but it’s takes like this why people hate Boston sports fans (and New York sports fans when they win). Baseball is something to do for fun. If this season

I saw Chico Walker hit an inside-the-park Grand Slam. It’s one of the more thrilling things to see as a baseball fan, because usually something bonkers is happening.

This is on brand for someone with a burner “Jeff Van Hungry”

I was driving through northern Nevada along I-80 once. There was a large rest area that said “24 hour women/Free parking.” At first I’m like “Wow, how progressive to offer solo female drivers a place to park on long road trips that were safe spaces.” Then two seconds later I realized it was just a roadside brothel.
