Considering the limit of friends you can have on your friend list, this is quite useless for streamers because you'd have to have your viewers on your friends list. Plus, no subscription options.
It's the target audience. For easier emotional empathy between viewers and characters. The great majority of anime viewers are about high school age, so they can put themselves in the place of the main character.

I get what you're saying. But it was still only more of the same. The change in perspective, in my opinion (and my 23" monitor) are a complete game changer. The storytelling as well.
