It was rumormongering. NYT did journalism. There is a difference and posting unsubstantiated rumors is not journalism.
I never commented about it, but I was perfectly content to see the “confusion” around the reporting (ie. Kirkman reversing on her statements, in retrospect for pretty obvious reasons) rather than consigning CK’s work to the trash like I should have.
Not necessarily true that any STD would have shown up. A (she thinks) happily married monogamous woman wouldn’t think to get tested — some things like HPV can be asymptomatic or nearly so— but then go on to have terrible, even terminal results.
Just like child rape, there is only one valid defense to having sex with someone in police custody -
Too angry and disgusted to type coherent thoughts.
“But why don’t women come forward????”
You said that the thing about the sheet “creates the idea that Jews are different than everybody else. It helps to establish them as an other.” My point is that nothing does that as well as a uniform and self segregation. You don’t get to work hard to isolate yourselves and then complain that someone else is othering…
Is that.. is that not how I’m supposed to wear my ghost costume?
“If you believe that feminism is transformative, that its goal is to dismantle the patriarchy, then Bialik’s feminism is the weakest iteration imaginable.”
I just have so many anecdotes I don’t know where to start. My maternal grandparents who hated each other bitterly, slept in separate bedrooms, sniped at each other with cruel insults in front of all the grandkids, but hey they had 57 years of marriage awwwww true love I guess. That’s a successful marriage if time is…
The worst kept secret in New York or Hollywood.
There’s no such thing as “alternative medicine.” If it works, it’s just called “medicine.”
The secret to lower taxes is NOT supply side economics or cutting social programs. The secret to lower taxes is to get a better accountant.
In another post I offered a simple solution: Make amends by offering a male only double feature: Brokeback Mountain and Beaches.
No one said it did. But just like the commenter Triplicate just wrote, if “I’m offended” is the new yard stick to determine what’s worthy of artistic merit, it’s not a good thing. And unfortunately we are already there.
As a “minority” (so they call us) married to a “minority” artist, I’m (we are) hugely upset at being confined in a cultural ghetto.
You’re right—the artist and museum are making a mistake by capitulating to some pressure. They shouldn’t be agreeing with you. It’s bad for art in general for them to remove the installation.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with disagreeing with a piece of art, and I definitely see their point. But removing art because some people disagree with it is... worrisome to me.
