In all seriousness, come over some time. Varied weather, no giant spiders, lots of lakes. Even Detroit has made a pretty good rebound in the last 10 years. The roads are terrible, but the nature is good and the housing is affordable.

Michiganders are actually, by and large, quite friendly. Minnesotans only act like it.

This. And the incredible car culture.

The beaches in Michigan are phenomenal. Lake Michigan is a wonder. Michigan has incredible breweries, and lots of beachy towns.

Spent one summer in Rochester from living in the swamps of Va. Perfect weather all summer, no AC, no problem. Freaked the F out when windows were opened with no screens in them. In Va I can’t leave a window open in the summer at night, with a light on.

Falls are *amazing*. We have some very pretty state-line.

Several really good race tracks.

Couple towns with absolutely booming economies (Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids are both undergoing massive startup booms).

If you are an avid boater you have more water than most people could hope for without any salt! Say goodbye to bottom painting and replacing exhaust risers/manifolds after only a few years along with other salt related issues.

You can ask that question about any state. It’s what you make of it, really. I like the fact there are no major environmental issues, no major snow, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. No worries about fresh water shortages. Winters are not so bad, we don’t get a ton of snow on the eastern side of Michigan.

Half the cost of living for more ability to aquire rusty Jeep projects.

Honestly, it is a gorgeous state. Going through the seasons is wonderful and I do like Winter even it drags on a little too long.
