Tom, I really don’t like that downpayment advice. Auto loan rates are cheap, so the optimal amount to put down is zero, assuming that you can get approved and you trust yourself not to piss the money away.

As a 49er fan, it kills me to say this, but the Bay Area has some of the worst sports fans. Warriors fans are terrible- somehow the team wins the Championship every year and they swear the deck is stacked against them. Sharks fans are a close second. 

Isn’t this a success story? Instead of paying USC tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to train him to be more employable, he used that money to start what eventually became a multi-million dollar company.

I agree 100%. Drop in value from a new Carolla to 3 Year Old/ 9k miles is going to be a lot greater than the drop in value from a 3 YO example w/ 60k to 6YO/ 69K, and if you find one that had at least a couple oil changes in the first 60k miles you’re probably going to be just fine.
