You have a short window (5 or 10m) after you make a comment to edit that comment. I use that time to refine my position(s). That is how this and, in fact, most forum/blogs are designed. :/

It seems that Veit formed an intractable opinion about me... went back to find quotes to affirm their perceptions... apparently

I have addressed most of this in other comments.... but I’ll summarize.

I never said, nor would argue, that it justifies anything.

Opinion noted, though.

...and that excuses why the vast majority of video game women are conventionally attractive.

The site gives you time to refine your position (I think it’s 5 or 10 minutes). You have the opportunity as well. That is valuable and important (if you care about actually understanding what other people are saying). My edits have not, to my knowledge, changed the substance of my replies... only elaborated on them

You keep saying I’m “moving the goal post” or “walking back” but you’ve provided zero evidence for this. You say “look back at what you wrote”... I did... I quoted what my initial point was (where I started, the original goal post) and, so far as I can see, it matches exactly what I’m saying now.

I’ll happily admit

For example, adult male heights are on average 70 inches (5'10) with a standard deviation of 4 inches. Adult women are on average a bit shorter and less variable in height with a mean height of 65 inches (5'5) and standard deviation of 3.5 inches.

Nobody’s written a psych profile, we’ve just been speculating about whether you know you’re wrong and are too entrenched and sexist to admit it, or you’re just a sexist idiot.

I would suggest that you’re not watching female full contact football if you make the statement that the vast majority of female athletes are slim, pretty, and built like pinup models (which is the video game model you’re comparing them to).

Opinion noted.

I appreciate the reminder that people can be reasonable and thoughtful.

The definition of the word is “physically strong, fit and active”. There are numerous Olympic events that wouldn’t seem to really fit the bill (skeet shooting?).

It’s important not to lose touch with what I am actually talking about. My original comment was that game developers default to their impressions of average

You missed my point. They are outliers among athletes (not all people in America). Pretty much every semi-pro football team in the world has at least a couple men with comparable builds.

I actually watch both sports (full contact male/female football) and that isn’t my impression. Do you?

I never said body diversity was uncommon. You all seem to burn a lot of fuel apparently projecting your insecurities.

No.

Wow... you guys are burning a lot of fuel building up a psychological profile on me with little to no real information. I watch women’s full contact football as well as men’s full contact football. It’s probably why I have this impression... and maybe you don’t.

We’re not really talking about top tier athletes... pretty much everyone in the Olympics would be an outlier (anomoly, exception, etc) in their respective athletic field. My contention is that game developers tend to lean towards the social perception of “average” athletic builds. Our social perception of male

Of course not (to all of the above). I am basing this on my impressions... as I imagine you are as well. If anyone had solid facts to share I’m sure they would... but no one on either side of this discussion does (as far as I can tell). Lots of anecdotes. None any more valid than my own so far as I can tell.

Folks that like a game tell you to keep playing it and it will get better... then you put in 100 hours and say, “yup, I still think it was terrible” and they criticize you for that too.
