I think that is a false dichotomy. He is undoubtedly a passionate politician (at least sometimes) and humans lie.
I agree... but the criticism narrative around this game since launch has been centered on “promises” not delivered. I have put many hours in to the game and can say with confidence that it would benefit hugely from more/better AI scripting (what game wouldn’t?) and/or more compelling scripted “quests” or encounters...…
The problem with the hype train running on the No Man’s Sky track isn’t materially different from hype trains for any other product, though; ultimately, a combination of over-promising on the dev end and unrealistic expectations fueled by unfounded speculation among fans leads to this sort of disappointment often…
I couldn’t agree more! If you actually go through those interviews (even the more recent ones) there is actually not very much info provided. This meant that every tiny little kernel of real information became a point of obsession for every person with an interest in this game... and those kernels grew. A developer…
They started clamming up (in the weeks leading up to launch) when it was absolutely clear that they weren’t going to be able to deliver on some of their aspirations (at launch, anyways). The last word from them just prior to launch is that this wasn’t a multiplayer game and no one should go in to it looking for a…
I just really wish the universe were filled with alien races that actually did things besides standing/sitting around and/or flying ships in circles around my little bubble of reality. I have a laundry list of serious annoyances but I think this is the thing that I am most disappointed about.
I agree (to some extent)... but I think it’s important to note that the one thing they did not promise and so could not have under-delivered on was a tight linear narrative. It was always described as a huge procedurally generated sandbox to get lost in.
Meh... I’m not everyone so I can’t say with real certainty what might trigger someone. Making up words is a much more straightforward solution in this context.
I covered why the first might not work... those others... really... roll off the tongue. As I said... probably best just to make up new words (especially for a sci-fi video game). Then you don’t have to debate the socio-political implications.
Also... if “No Man’s Sky” is supposed to mean “No Male’s Sky” doesn’t that…
I think the word “trying” is a bit of a stretch...
My pleasure. One hot take deserves another.
Man... as in Human. It’s a colloquial use of the word in reference to all humans. There are arguably no humans (of any sex) in No Man’s Sky.
They could have called it “No Person’s Sky” (possibly false since many of the aliens of unknown sex should be labeled as persons) or maybe “No One’s Sky” which may actually miss…
The announcement was that No Man’s Sky is not a multiplayer game and no one should go in to it looking for a multiplayer experience (obviously meaning, if any feature is associated with multiplayer don’t expect to find it in this game). The game actually does have a number of multiplayer elements (it is a shared…
That doesn’t equate to seeing other players (being in the same instance)... just coming upon them and the evidence of the path they have taken. This game is definitely about seeing the evidence of other players (the systems, planets, flora and fauna they name).
Yeah... the pretty much ubiquitous advice of staying off an injury to avoid making it worse is total bullshit.
New information supersedes old. Shocking. The bits about physically seeing other people was mentioned months ago in interviews (and very well could have matched their intentions and/or test builds)... pretty much all of the info since has been more vague on this topic. If I had a nickle for every intended feature…
Developers say all sorts of things about various builds of their games prior to release (and, at any given time, they may or may not be true about the builds they are actually working with at the time). Not all of these things actually make it in to the release build. The same can be said regarding their professed inte…
Opinion noted.
