1. Search hospitals near you. Look down the list until you find one that sounds secular; expand the search radius if necessary. Call it, ask if they are religiously affiliated and provide the service you need. Repeat until you get the answers you want.

Looks like in MI 70-80% of the hospital beds are not in Catholic hospitals. Am I reading that right?

How hard is it to figure out a hospital called Mercy is religious? I’ve been to quite a few Catholic and religious hospitals because of a past job and it’s really easy to tell. If she didn’t research the place she was going to give birth that is her mistake.

Rather be dead or have debt? If you don’t have a family member or friend or rando on craigslist to help you out when you’re pregnant, sick, in pain, and scared that’s sad and pathetic. It sucks to suck.

If the Catholic hospitals refuse to accept a government mandate they will shut down.

The VA is a great example of the state running hospitals. I wouldn’t say they do a good job.

Catholic hospitals are non profits to begin with. Would be profits are reinvested into the hospital or go to charity care. I audited a large Catholic hospital system when I was younger and can confirm this.

Problems for 5 weeks. Takes less than 3.5 hours to drive to Detroit from Muskegon. You have to go through Grand Rapids and Lansing to get there. She could have found a non-religious hospital somewhere in there. If you think your life is threatened you shouldn’t be worried about insurance. Fix the problem then worry…

Strong arming a religious organization doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. You might get some to sell to for profit hospital systems. What if they still refuse and shut down?

So in 5 weeks she didn’t try going to a different hospital? There are a lot of Mercy hospitals in MI so I can’t confirm but I’d make a large bet there are other hospitals in the area.

There was/is a need that private and public hospitals don’t/can’t fill. You think there is a health care problem now? Imagine if hundreds of hospitals closed.

Hilldog is in a tough spot here. Most Americans side with the tribe so she wants to side with the tribe too. At the same time Hilldog doesn’t want to go against her friends and corporate overlords’ interests.
