Takashi Miike did a live action adaptation of that - parrot on the stand and all. What a weird filmography.

I played the first Phoenix Wright game last year, and it’s an absurdist delight. What’s truly crazy is that there was a film adaptation back in 2012 directed by none other than Takashi Miike who must have made the movie in-between three others that year. I haven’t watched the adaptation, but from what I can tell, the

I’m still chipping away at FF14; I just finished Shadowbringers (WHAT AN ENDING!!!) earlier in the week and just finished the postgame content the other night. All that’s left is for me to wait for the update that gives closure to the current story arch and tie up the loose ends of finishing some really cool raids I

I’ve been playing the original Phoenix Wright trilogy for the first time. I’ve only completed the first game (and the bonus case was dull and took forever) and I also immediately screenshotted that bit about cross-examining the parrot (and the damned parrot had been coached by defense counsel, which is even crazier).

I’m playing through Persona 4 Golden right now. I’m probably way behind other commentariat on the game (I’m not that far after the death of Mooroka), so many of these observations have probably been made before, not that I’ve ever let that stop me:

I played the first Ace Attorney game a few months ago but I can’t motivate myself to continue with the other ones. I know the weirdness and silliness is supposed to be part of the fun, but it just got on my nerves.

I always loved this about the Layton games as well, though they usually don’t really give you the clues you’d need to figure out what’s really happening. The third game, Unwound Future launched on mobile recently, and I was reminded how much I loved it’s particularly stupid major twist.

Sleuth games are delightful but rare. I enjoy “Aviary Attorney”, which is Phoenix Wright in a world of Grandville animals. And spent quite some time with “A matter of murder”, a simple but lovely Agatha-Christie-like murders generator, also based on questionning witnesses and spotting clues. We haven’t evolved much

My favorite parts of the Ace Attorney games are when totally reasonable solutions and conclusions cascade on each other to reach a totally absurd moment. Cross-examining the parrot is a really famous one, but my absolute favorites are in later games.

Dark Souls 3 journey continues.
I beat Dancer of the Boreal Valley! What a battle it was too. The first one in this game that took everything I got and forced me to focus and bring my A-game. It was one of the, if not the longest, boss battle I’ve had so far.
Absolutely loved the music that was atmospheric and soft as

My favourite stupid thing about the Phoenix Stupid Law Land is that whoever the prosecutor decides is guilty is guilty until you can prove someone else did it.

Finished Gear 5 which, while I overall liked the game, was such a bafflingly written game. It felt like it had three or four writers independently working on different sections and then just forced them together as none of the first three Acts felt like they fitted together. Still interested in Gears 6 and loved Kait

Monster Hunter World has started its big summer event, everyone’s in a tropical mood, and I’m still trying to get on top of things. The seasonal armors require some materials that I just haven’t been seeing yet (monster bones come in a wide range of toughness and there are at least two categories I’m not up to), and

I am playing The Witcher and I can safely say that the first Witcher is a bad game. But I cheated combat into being a non-issue so instead I just have to deal with the crapshoot of a story. It is capable of good individual scenes, but it often feels written by a particularly clever 14 year old, right down to the

Since I was stuck at home for the past two months, I figured what’s a better time sink than an MMO? I’ve always heard FF14's Shadowbringers has an amazing story (and it is!) but knowing that the game was subscription based always put a sour taste in my mouth. Eventually I figured that I could probably no-life the game

I am enjoying my working PS4 Pro. I have posted a few times here and at the AVClub about the trials I had to go through with the broken one I got scammed on through Offerup. Long story short, after I killed all the roaches, cleaned it up, put fresh thermal compound and replaced the power supply I have a nearly 100%

I dove back into Death Road to Canada on the Switch. It’s dumb, but it’s very fun dumbness. Otherwise it’s still mostly Animal Crossing.

Monster Train is fantastic-- it’s sucked me in in a way that nothing comparable since Slay the Spire has (although Dicey Dungeons is also very very good). I have Griftlands installed, but haven’t put much time into it yet.

I’ve been playing, or rather replaying, Far Cry 4 on PS4. Seeing that the trophies I’d earned on it were from 2014 really blew my mind. It really hasn’t felt like 6 years since I got it, but here we are.
