to me, at least, it’s pretty clear that he’s cavalier about most things, so being cavalier about people dying so that he can say that he sent people to mars is very on brand for him. my guess is that he’s a little on the spectrum and may not really be able to functionally relate to people on an empathetic level.

perhaps the issue is that he seemed incredibly cavalier about it, rather than respectful for the sacrifice that will be required.
