It would be less weird if it weren’t for how widely vaccines have been mandated for the youth for several generations. We have been mandating kids/teens get them for decades to attend schools and as a result haven’t needed to mandate them for adults. 

Pretty much every person born in this country has had at least 2 dozen vaccine shots before age 5. You need all those shots in order to go to school. Why is this new vaccine suddenly ‘authoritarianism’? Do you think having to follow stop signs is also ‘authoritarianism’?
