I love FlipBoard on the ipad and I just started using Pulse for my ipod. Both are excellent and have instapaper integration (very important feature in a newsreader).

I say go both routes. Have one primary server HTPC, then several smaller media centers (ATV2 running XBMC) for your other TVs.

Sounds really great. Amazon vod was comparable to itunes, but this subscription would put amazon over the top as amazing.
