I pay my $15 when a new major patch comes out, sometimes every 2 patches, and then cancel my reoccurring payment option right away. I usually get through the new stuff in 2-3 weeks and then don’t have to worry about paying for something I’m not using.

I agree that it’s a different animal. However, I didn’t play FFXIV until Heavensward and I thought it was story focused since I focused on the story. I don’t remember having to grind much for gear or levels to advance the story.
