A few months ago, I was reading Jordan Mechner's journals during his creation of Karateka. The employees of Broderbund were complaining that the soul has gone out of the games industry, that there were too many people coming in just trying to make quick money, rather than to make games for the love of making games,

That was the first guy I thought of, but I couldn't remember what they were called! They had their own cartoon show and everything.

Google tells me the fashion of having your hair carved into a tall square, which was big in the late 1980s among primarily black people, was called the "hi-top fade".

I got a copy of Wizardry 6, from 1990, on Steam... decided to install and load it up this morning....

Now playing

what's the url? in exchange, have a animation by Takashi Kurihara - the character designer for katamari and noby noby boy. :)

Don't care what they're wearing, what they're presenting is where my eyes are focussed.

I worked on a product 15 years ago, an obscure PC game called "Girland ~ Through the eyes of the girls", which was a dating sim for girls - so girls could go on virtual dates with boys, converse with them in natural language by typing at them.

It's ok, it's just a thing. 99.999% of the time it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the review. This game sounds... socially broken. I agree it would have been fine if all you had to do was subvert miis, but all the gender stereotyping would really annoy me way too much to play.

838 on Steam at the moment. Add PSN and a PS+ subscription, XBLA, Nintendo eShop / Wiiware, Desura, GOG... and that's closing in on 10% of that collection without even thinking about something like this guy's dedicated collecting.

11000 honestly doesn't sound that much... I suppose they don't count games on digital accounts though, do they?

Ah, the only pinball table where a player gets "shoot again" and starts weeping.

This article should be titled "why a job in coding is great". You just need to get a job where a) you're allowed to go home and b) you're allowed to sleep, and you'd be really happy with things.

It looks exactly like an old Mayflash USB Gamecube adapter I already own, except it has 4 ports instead of 2.

I don't know, I don't routinely seek out trailers for films. I think I've seen two of them; they showed on TV over the weekend. Film about skydiving.

Well, at least it's a picture of Godzilla.

What does "indie" really have to do with it?

I think the first "trapped in an MMO" series is therefore the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. It's just coincidental that no-one had invented the WWW or MMOs yet. :P I used to love that series.

They also all have the same story. "Strong willed girl demonstrates that it's a good idea to befriend vaguely scary things, and it turns out ok in the end"
