A bunt is intentional, the rule book is clear, and the crew chief does a really really good job pointing to all of the relevant baseball rules. There’s no argument here. Squaring up to bunt is completely irrelevant if the contact is not intentional and you’re pulling away, especially to avoid being hit by a pitch.
