"he can say what he likes, but I don't have to sit back and listen to it without response, including economic consequences. "

Remember when people were just human rights advocates? Why do we have to say that people get rights based on the subset of humanity that they belong to?

I'm fine with him saying whatever stupid thing he wants to say and I don't wish violence on him.

I totally agree. I've absolutely no problem with an employer firing an employee, for any reason. Your money, do what you want with it.

So, you like snark?

I totally agree with you - he probably violated a clause in his contract.

Absolutely not. People should, obviously, treat each other with dignity and respect and afford others the same kindness that they'd appreciate in return. Further, it should NOT come down to dishonesty or discretion because people should not be judging and denigrating others.

Oh stop it. Leslie Mann is great.

Replace "could" in my post with "should."

That guy shouldn't have been fired. The rash of firings and suspensions over words is completely ridiculous.

Amazing post!

And vice-versa. If he were fired for saying there is no God, a litany of those calling for his head now would instead be demanding that he get his job back.

Do you want to see him fired?

How was their business hurt by this?

What if you walked into work and told your boss that you didn't like gay people because of your religious beliefs. Could you be fired for that?

There is absolutely no way this will hurt their bottom line.

I agree, in part. But I also have to stand up for his right to think and say what he wishes.

I take the opposite stance. I think his words were stupid, but I so support his right to speak them that I would NEVER want to see him suspended or fired.

And in an intriguing turn of events, more people are boycotting them FOR this suspension than ever would have had they done nothing.
