"Martin thought drugging someone was perfectly acceptable until he realized how that would make him look. "

Dunno, but I think it was called The Green Room with Paul Provenza. I just found it by falling into a Youtube blackhole a while back.

A discussion between comedians, notably Lizz Winstead, Bill Burr and Colin Quinn, on getting offended by jokes.

Yeah, but Martin Freeman is also the butt of the joke in his joke, too. He's making himself like Eric Cartman or Archie Bunker. He's painting himself as an blatant scumbag, and pretending to not realize it.

Everyone on Jezebel, watch this before you get offended by comedy:

You should watch this clip where Bill Burr kind of debates Lizz Winstead

What people should take away from this is that sometimes comedy really does operate on multiple levels. You obviously get this. Not everyone does though, particularly when it involves an issue that might hit close to home. They hear something horrible about something that may have experienced and it hurts them to

"He did NOT put himself in the position of appearing abhorrent because, many people do not find that behavior abhorrent"

His joke was not about men raping women. His joke as about a tiny hobbit raping an elf, and then he used misdirection to make himself look like a bad guy.

A person can't be responsible for what other people might do when they take their words out of context and distort them for some violent or vitriolic reason, though.

You sure do love bulleted lists, don't you?

A bunch of the Boston/NYC comedians that were on Tough Crowd a few years back used to hang out at comedy clubs in New York together. The best was probably Patrice O'Neal. He died recently. I heard a story on a comedy show recently about a time Patrice went to get a physical, right before meeting up with his

Have you ever watched Tough Crowd? Have you ever heard Louie CK, Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Nick Dipaolo, Kevin Hart, Dave Attell, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Sarah Silverman ("If we can put a man on the moon.... we can put every man with AIDS on the moon") Keith Robinson, Jay Mohr, Patrice O'Neal, etc., etc

No, I have no problem with her joke. I have no problem with any joke. I do find it funny that someone would be such a hypocrite though, and only walk back her words once outrage got to her.

"It's true you can joke about anything, so long as you go about it the right way"

Misdirection humor is generally lost on people who have a desire to be offended. Which is just so sad, because misdirection comedy requires that the listener be a decent human. Otherwise, it falls totally flat.
