I know people like our friend Wtraveler very verrrry well.

You’re talking about the technicalities and legalities of obtaining American citizenship. I’m talking about the phenomenon of being first generation, of growing up feeling that you are American, committed to the United States in every way, feeling connected to it as your homeland, which is what happens when one is…
Because Education does not like teachers and it does not particularly care for math. Students tend to outright dislike both. Other teachers see you as the department they’ll never understand. You will spend eight hours a day hearing administrators tell you that it’s your job to help students overcome their math…
To show how angry I am? Not very good with emoji
There is no way you are a lower middle class non-white immigrant and this ignorant, I know a Trump troll when I see one
Immigrants are not a monolith, nor are we helpless beings in need of everything. If you don’t pay your rent or your car payment, you will be evicted or your car will be repossessed. I don’t agree with the system necessarily, but it’s the game we have/had to play.
So, you’ve never been poor, huh?
Something can be both legal and incredibly, incredibly cruel.
Do you not make 100k? Cause having 8k I could do yearly, especially it it was the cost to stay in the country. I say this not saying $500 on minimum wage is easy, just that making over a 100k makes life real easy. That’s why we should pay more in taxes.
You really cannot envision a single scenario in the entirety of life possibilities in which it would be challenging to set aside $500? You’re quite lucky in this life because this is a reality for many many American citizens themselves, not to mention immigrants.
It’s amazing how quickly those who have gained citizenship seem to turn around and blossom into true Americans. “If I can do it the right way, why can’t you?!” I may not be an immigrant, but I’m not just some dumb liberal frothing at the mouth. Speaking as a woc from an impoverished upbringing, I know how difficult it…
I’ve had a job since I was 13 in order to help support my (poor) family, and you, sir or ma’am, are speaking out of your ass.
Lol look just because you and all of your lily white friends in HS were free to blow all the money you made working at Starbucks and Express doesnt mean thats how it works for the rest of us
Eh, maybe she saved the $500 and then had an emergency expense in October that had to be covered. It seems a bit harsh to judge with no knowledge of her circumstances, there an awful lot of people for whom one car breakdown or flooded room from a broken pipe or a smashed pair of glasses is a disaster financially.
She has ethical standing. This is her home. Immigrants are not being targeted to strengthen the country, they are being targeted to weaken them as a group and marginalize them from the rest of the country. She was targeted only to retaliate for speaking out on behalf of her family. We need to break the law to protect…
I think it is absolutely awful that any DREAMER is being deported. It’s a humanitarian crisis to send children back to countries they might not remember at all, where they might not know anyone, might not speak the language.
Families being deported. They come here. They work hard for slave wages and live like shit so they can take care of their families back home. Good innocent nonviolent people who’s only crime is trying to survive.
But... but. Bad dudes.
“You know who we are and you know why we’re here,” —sound like some real tough guys. Guess what, the ‘80s hero movies called and they want their hack lines back. Nice work taking down the millenial girl with the big glasses, Steve- good collar.
This poor girl. And for those of you thinking she should have kept a lower profile, imagine if you’d been brought here as a child considered yourself every inch an American patriot, even believing you could participate in peaceful demonstration and freedom of speech. She might’ve been naïve but she didn’t feel she…
