Why does knighthood matter at all? Like...what point did it serve in the middle ages and why is it still in practice? Is a inconsequential person like a pop star really no different than who they knighted when this kind of gesture mattered?

All my family overseas is shocked that this could happen. Even if the US has fallen in estimation in their eyes all over Europe because of the war, there was still a sense that the US “had it together”.
