Jesus wasn’t that kind of messiah.

Jesus? The more overt parallel is to Muhammad. Jesus didn’t get to lead an army, he just died.

Why assume the absence of Marvel films?

Halloween should be celebrated outdoors.

This film was informally known as “Freaky Friday the 13th”, but that would have infringed on the IP of two different movies, so they had to shorten it.

This serial killer seems rather poorly adjusted in his ordinary life, so I wouldn’t expect him to be able to fit in well as a teen girl.

I was unaware of that factoid about real life stories. I guess I hadn’t read any in-depth accounts of those.

He was sent off on a side-mission in TLJ that ultimately didn’t matter, with the lame Captain Phasma being the only character from the first film he gets to interact with.

If he’s scrambling, I doubt he’s doing so very quickly.

In a coincidence, 400 Blows is covered by the current episode of Unspooled (although their Rebel Without a Cause episode should arrive tonight).

Rafael Yglesias had an interesting article on why he chose to adapt the screenplay of that for Roman Polanski, despite having been sexually abused as a child and knowing that Polanski had raped a child.

They should have covered “Interstellar Overdrive” instead.

Since this is going to be divided into two films, the first one doesn’t cover all the same material as the Lynch film, so it would be somewhat odd to call it a remake.

The novel Starship Troopers included super smart “neodogs” used by the Mobile Infantry, but they weren’t in the film. That’s low-hanging fruit to steal for this movie.

I would prefer if he had the Disturbed mascot, just to confirm that nu-metal existed in the Dune universe.

I was surprised the article used Arrival to identify him rather than BR2049, since the latter is more akin to the distant future alternate world of Dune. Arrival was based on a short story without really any “action”.

He’s not wrong about those characters, he’s just got a narrow perspective because he played one.

I was not aware of the shared screenwriter with Batman V. Superman. Having seen neither, I can’t actually comment on the similarities. I now wonder if I ought to see them in chronological order to see if he progressed as an author, or Star Wars first since I saw episodes 7 & 8 but none of the DCEU.

I assume you mean “D&D” instead of “B&B”, since Benioff’s co-showrunner isn’t named “Beiss”. And I also blame GRRM somewhat for not finishing any more books despite all the years he had to do so.

I know that George Lucas is not a great screenwriter and his claims about having the original trilogy all planned out ahead of time are BS, but he somehow did a whole lot better than Disney despite not even knowing there would be a trilogy when he started.
