Oh, come on. Let’s be realistic. You know damn well there are things out there where a tarp would not suffice for one reason or another, never mind the lack of convenience.

And what if the owner frequently needs to haul something too big for a van, as well? What if they tow things that a van cannot?

What if you have a heavy payload that shouldn’t get wet? Look, I dislike trucks when they aren’t used for actual work just as much as you do. But bed covers are a very useful tool to many people who actually use them for work.
Read. The. Article.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Genuine work trucks may be hauling smaller, heavier stuff that still shouldn’t get wet. But generally I agree that most people with bed covers on their perfect, shiny truck should have bought something else. But then how would they validate their manhood?
Does nobody read the article? For quick opening and closing without having to worry about the rolling mechanism jamming up from dirt, grime, etc. It is a lot easier to lift it open and to close than to unroll and re-roll many times per day, as in Andrew’s article..that he wrote...that everyone is commenting on...that…
Do we read, or no?
My neighbor, up until about 8 years ago, had 3 of these, two of which were immaculate and one was his “beater” that was still decent. The good ones were teal and magenta, of course.
This hurts, and I hate it, but it is correct and necessary. I’m glad you feel this way, and I think we all agree, whether we want to or not.
I actually LOLed at the first part of your comment, but I have to disagree with the second. Mustangs, Camaros, etc. have become more common than the Bel Air, and I cannot really get myself to be excited about them when I see them, even if they pack a performance punch.
The thing is that AWD really only helps you not be stuck. The real benefit of snow tires is stopping and control while turning, which AWD does not afford you.
You just explained the idea behind any currency ever made.
My limited experience with these cars tells me that after 100k miles they simply become a rolling Christmas tree of trouble lights, each of which, I’m sure, costs at least $1000 to fix.
My mom used to be prescribed Ambien. One time my dad took one with her because he had been stressed out and needed sleep. Well, they did not immediately fall asleep but instead stayed up editing my two brothers and my school photos with Microsoft paint, very poorly, of course. I ended up with “got milk” written on my…
So the Toyota is only $900 cheaper than the Ford, except its really $3,880 cheaper than the truly comparable Ford theoretically, but is actually $20,000 cheaper than a comparable Ford that you can actually buy.
1st gear: Manufacturer lies and cheats. Government gets mad. Consumer is punished.
They are, instead, punishing the consumers. How governmental.
I think this last part is what will doom us all. As cars become more and more a rolling iPad, people increasingly want the newest and “bestest” thing. I think we are going to start seeing a lot more constant upgrading in the car industry. That’s my prediction, as an irrelevant internet man, at least.
A handful of options can not make a crude off road vehicle into a luxury vehicle. That takes significant suspensions changes.
