I’m not sure why so many people are complaining about the content on Jalopnik. There are two reasons that I come here: 1) to learn about car things 2) to laugh about weird, odd, or interesting things that are related to cars at least in some miniscule way. I don’t mind these silly, pointless articles-in fact I…
Also I like sticking my thumb into pictures, duh!
$3000 is a lot for a winter beater with 300k on it, though. Small things are bound to nickle and dime you at that point, and it adds up. I want to vote NP, but $3000 is just too much.
The only time hiding your plates makes sense if there is something unique about your car that makes it valuable that is not evident from just looking at it. If you had thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment, for example, shown in an ad, people may spot your car by your plate number and steal it all. Things like…
I’m with you. I appreciate this car and think it would be a cool beater, but just not for that price. With that kind of mileage your are going to have little things nickel and diming you, which is fine for a $1000 beater, but not for a $3000 beater. I’d much rather spend $3000 elsewhere.
Yeah, please buy some cars from me for 2 grand. I could make a killing finding running/driving cars to sell at that price.
Or find an alternate route and don’t drive through water that is 100% clearly too deep to safely drive through. I don’t understand how anyone can look at a flooded road with other cars stranded in it and think it is a good idea to drive through, unless your vehicle is seriously lifted.
He probably had an accident with the water, attempting to drive through it at full speed. “If I go fast enough, I’ll drive right over the top!”
But I have to show all those other cars that are the same height as me that I am more capable!
Considering how often I have to drive through flood waters (hint: Find an alternate route), I don’t think this necessarily makes a vehicle practical.
More like “luxury” car buyers are stupid. It has been said time and time again not to drive through standing water, and yet not only did one BMW driver do it, but at least 2 others followed soon after. Every additional driver to attempt that is increasingly stupid.
The amount of stupidity in this video is astounding. Not only was one person stupid enough to drive into the water, but several others did even after seeing that the first car was stuck. This video seems like a good summary of most luxury car buyers assuming that their cars are better than everyone else’s, even when…
Wow! it’s almost exactly the same!
I’ll take the buick and the volvo, please. Thank you!
Reading this has made me angry, and I don’t even have to worry about it.
You and me both, man. You and me both.
You obviously aren’t very good at wrenching. Any REAL jalop would have converted to RWD and wedged the viper motor in north-south. NEWB
I’m sure others have said it, but you could improve this principal vastly by eliminating the physical aspects, and go right to either some sort of laser that can read painted sections (think continuous barcode scanner) or even some sort of embedded magnetic strips and the appropriate reader. Hell, you could probably…
