It happens again in Journey, but it's pretty clear throughout that moths aren't harbingers so much as messengers Gandalf sends to tell the eagles "Dudes, Gandalf needs help again." Apparently moths fly at supersonic speeds, and eagles listen to whatever they have to say.

I didn't notice much, actually, and I've become fairly sensitive to that because it's so overused. Going back and re-watching a bunch of the movie in 24 fps just to see the contrast, I didn't notice any slow motion; what bugged me immensely instead was the way the story kept stopping for flashbacks and side stories,
