There's actually a kind of funny running gag throughout the film about how he never said "Bleh! Bleh!", doesn't know where that stereotype comes from, and finds it embarrassing.

I think I'm just hopelessly biased by my personal experiences with what I see as a very similar situation. What I'm seeing over and over as we all argue this are people interpreting Palmer's words onscreen in a way that directly contradicts my personal experience. So I keep arguing for my personal experience — and am

@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus Sorry, I was unclear. The original Undercover recording (which is what they are now selling on an album) took maybe half an hour of our time. That's what I was thinking of when I posted, since that's where they're potentially profiting from our participation.

See, I mostly agree with you on this, until you get into "whether she's allowed." Taxes aren't optional; asking people for favors is. So is refusing to do those favors for free. People saying she isn't "allowed" to do something legal that she's always done because she has money now bothers me.

@Djur See below. I never said I was against a day's pay for a day's work; I said I didn't feel I had a moral right to be financially compensated for half an hour of singing with a rock band.

Okay, I'll bite. What's the connection?

I understand and care about and supported the Chicago teachers' strike. I sympathize with unions and think on balance they're a good thing. I think people should be paid for the work they do. I just see this as largely a different issue, where Palmer was asking for something more akin to a flash mob — show up and do

It's all in the tone. As Harlan Ellison says, I think everyone's entitled to their educated opinion — meaning they should know the basic facts before spouting their thoughts. (As everyone here seems to be doing; this whole comment board has been an almost entirely reasonable exchange of opinions on the matter, which

I absolutely do believe in entitlement in the sense that contracts

@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus Well, maybe commenters alone aren't, but they certainly make the site more dynamic and interesting. And readers of all stripes are — if people weren't reading, we wouldn't have an industry.
