I can certainly see it being the kind of thing that only manifests as an actual

I'm not! But considering that Genevive also saw it and really enjoyed it until the ending, but wound up furious at the film because of its final scene, I figured it was worth establishing a place where people who do see the movie could collectively drown their sorrows. With a less infuriating and contradictory ending,

Probably just as well, @avclub-6f8e50436ee2db7b982c290b29f9ddbc:disqus , given that people who have seen the trailer mostly seem to be repelled by it.

Yeah, Keith in particular said the trailer made him want to flee in horror, but it's definitely a case of "Let's sell this as a cutesy populist romance in order to get people in the door, because they wouldn't show up if they knew how weird and painful it gets."

Nope, not mentioned in the film. That might actually be a little too meta. She certainly isn't aware she's a type, and he thinks he's created a fully realized human being, so there's no one to make the observation — and it would be too on-the-nose if someone did.

It sounded to me more like she was talking about the loneliness that comes with realizing that, unlike in the movies, having someone in love with you does not solve all problems, emotional or otherwise, and does not automatically mean the other person really knows you on a fundamental level. That's a pretty universal

To some degree, "Ruby Sparks" did remind me of "The Future," in part because of the quirk level and in part because it starts so playful and then goes to a really dark, painful place. Though I do think the characters in "Ruby Sparks" feel more like actual potential people who could exist in the world than the ones in

What we're personally excited about. Although the previous installment, about The Giver, was inspired by the upcoming sequel, and the next couple are going to be classic YA reviews as well.

Yes, since that's pretty much exactly what happened in all those ads.
