I may have to watch that scene again, but that little personal justification makes sense (even though it was a terrible idea, like you said).

I think she was maybe trying to prove something to herself even though it was a terrible idea. She said something to the effect of “No reason I can’t go at night.” Almost like she is trying to convince herself there are no ghosts so it doesn’t matter whether she goes at night or day because its just a carcass of a…
Yes. I’m amazed how quickly the bent-necked lady went from terrifying to heartbreakingly sad.
See I assumed it was the mom, it didn’t start to click until a bit into this episode.
Anyone else notice the moving statue in the Hill House scenes when Hugh is looking for Liv? It makes me wonder if I missed any other shifting objects in any other scenes.
There’s a very strong Seinfeld-is-Unfunny effect to Halloween, simply because Halloween became the template for just about every slasher film that came thereafter.
Fuck, was H20 TWENTY YEARS ago?
The killer is....
Agreed but, they also don’t give a shit about commentators anymore. In fact they literally said as much shortly before the merge with Kinja.
At any rate, it’s a method I’ve come to hate—and the lack of discussion as the binge dumped seasons progress seems to show I’m not alone here...
The family arguments teetered on overwrought at times but, all in all, I thought this was a fantastic hour of television. I really appreciated how malleable time was, how it flowed and lingered on particular moments, and how well it showed how everyones’ past traumas informed who they are today. The final shot, Nell’s…
The long takes were only broken in three places. First two times to signify the jump into the second and third acts of the story, then the third time was to lead into the resolution of the episode.
So, are these reviews essentially recaps with some light criticism thrown in? I’m surprised that there’s no mention of Victoria Pedretti’s gobsmacking performance as Nell, which has to rank among the best I’ve seen on television. Unfailingly genuine, inventive, and expressive stuff, which sells every second of it.
Surprised that Russ Tamblyn’s Twin Peaks role is mentioned and not his role in the original Haunting movie. I think he played Luke iirc.
I am not as down on this show as the reviewer is, I actually think it is very well done. It is terror meets family drama. All the family has been forever affected by what happened to them and as a multipart series the scares actually are dolled out pretty well. The thing this series does well and what a horror movie…
This episode - especially the last few minutes - purely did me in, y’all. Emotionally, I mean. Just — stick a fork in me, I’m done. This fucking house! Poor Nellie.
It’s pretty clear to me that she never had sleep paralysis at all. What they’re showing *isn’t* sleep paralysis, and isn’t supposed to be.
As a former addict who literally was in this *exact same situation* if you change the genders (I broke away from from my rehab, cuz I was worried and had to find a friend, and I stupidly thought I would look after him and he gave me a kiss saying he’d be right back... and wasn’t) this episode really hit home.
Amazin…
And considering every recap reiterates the reviewer’s umbrage at the lack of fidelity to Shirley Jackson’s original work, they’d certainly be regretting any such promotion by now.
Kudos to literally every single person this guy meets who doesn't tell him "Shave that garbage off your face" because it is hi-larious to look at.
