My dad's 504 had a column mounted 4 speed manual. It was very smooth and easy to use.
There is a reason for the odd handbrake position.
The parents of a classmate of mine back in the 1970s had a Renault which had the gearshifter lever positioned where the windshield wiper stick usually is located. (Btw, manual gearbox, not automatic!)

Quarter panels are as well. I don’t know if that means it charges from both sides or, more likely, one side is has a blanked off piece where the charge port would be. Or maybe they put the key lock in there? Would like to see more.
