This. Experience in Japan, Europe and especially China is that people will pick a train over a plane if it’s fast, comfortable and convenient. The TGV is a decent service, but it could grab more passengers with more investment.
I’m roughly the same age, but grew up on the other side of the Atlantic. My journey kind of went the other way. But not completely.
