Yet I keep hearing that the situation in the United States today is the worst oppression there has ever been in the history of the world for LGBTQ people. Most young American LGBTQ activitsts and their allies don’t have a whole lot of historical or international perspective.

The problem is no matter how good the actor may be(and Portman can act when given a good script), It wont fix how stupid the character was in the prequels.
