Whenever we have a family reunion at my sister’s house, located in one of the western suburbs of Chicago (St. Charles I think) I’m always floored by how much driving we have to do on city streets/traffic-light infested hwys before we can reach a freeway, whether it is getting to/from her house or if we want to drive…

Tend to agree. The Heath Ledger iteration in TDK was compelling because of the screenplay they wrote and Ledger’s performance, not because the character itself is overly compelling.
