Psycho was the one film influence that everyone seems to forget about. John Carpenter even said straight up he was trying to emulate Alfred Hitchcock.

It feels predictable because so many horror/slasher movies that came after copied it. The same goes for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is an absolute masterpiece, but would come across like satire if you didn’t realize how original it was at the time.

I always tell anybody who hasn’t seen this, yet have seen the countless other horror movie which came after it, to keep things in perspective because the movie can come off as typical and ordinary, but Halloween was something new and innovative in its day.

We all know that the baby will be retrieved by Rick at some point, handed off to a smiling, matronly extra (who will not have any lines), and never ever seen or referred to again.

It’s almost as though these owners see their teams as the modern day plantations and their players the modern day cotton pickers. What a surprise!
