No one can answer that for you but don't assume that everyone else shares whatever preference you have on the matter.

Subsidy comes from the carrier. Contract doesn't have a price. There's an ETF that applies to the contract. Sure, you can sell the phone and pay the ETF (assuming that your phone sells for the ETF or more which isn't necessarily true in all cases) but what would be the point? You're still stuck with your old phone.
