I assume it took him a while to figure out exactly where Tyrion was, and once he found out he headed there post haste.
And basically everything he did was because Melisandre told him he was mankind's only hope.

Pretty much everyone in what I like to call South America. I live in Peru - a lot of people find it insulting for us "Norte Americanos" to call ourselves Americans. Down here, North, Central and South America are all parts of the same continent.
