Thank you for the additional context.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding things, but it seems like the term “transphobia” is mostly misplaced here. The issue seems to be what it means to be a women’s college in 2023. Looking at Smith’s policy (my kid will likely apply next fall), they accept all applicants who identify as female, which includes cis women, trans

Agreed. I’m the typical ADD-afflicted movie watcher who is usually bored by old films. But I’ve seen a few with Bette Davis, and she immediately stands out and captures your undivided attention. The first time you see her, you instantly “get” why she was a mega movie star. She’s a charisma volcano. And it’s true

I remember when Newsome was running for mayor of SF against Matt Gonzales in 2003. He was running against Matt Gonzales. The narrative was that Newsome was just a good-looking rich kid backed by big money, which was absolutely accurate. He was also painted as essentially a Republican. (In American politics, Newsome is

I think your generations are a bit off relative to their respective cultural milestones. For instance, nearly half of Gen X weren’t even born when Watergate occurred in the early 70's. The other rest were small children. And the moon landing occurred just a few years before Watergate.

In fairness, very few people fare well in comparisons with Susanna Hoffs, be they 64 or 34. She could play the love interest of (fellow ageless vampire) Paul Rudd, who is a decade her junior, and few would notice.

Well put.

It’s just like in prehistoric times when the Alpha male of a tribe would first intimidate his competitors by beating his chest before proving his dominance by posting mean tweets about them.

Thank you for the sensible take.

Also, going from a sinking ship (Brooklyn) to what is now a title contender (Phoenix) is the opposite of a “self-sabotaging action.”

Per the article, she told her side of the story to The Sun, a terrible English tabloid that almost certainly paid her for the story. She also interviewed with the The Daily Mail, another terrible English tabloid that almost certainly paid her for the privilege. So, both she and Harry have garishly monetized his

A parent pursues their incredibly successful career to its conclusion, which is retirement in their 40's. If that parent is Serena Williams, she gets praise. If that parent is Tom Brady, he gets shat upon as a bad father because he didn’t retire earlier.

You really buy everything Jezebel sells, don’t you? You, me, and Jezebel know almost nothing about his relationships with his children.

Ferrell had a funny part as the Penguin in The Batman, which is a very serious movie. But he was unrecognizable, which supports your theory.

Girls . . . in bikinis? Thanks for including this detail so that I could conclude from their choice of  Caribbean attire that these women are in fact shameless women of ill repute (bikinis!). This also confirms my suspicion that this Leonardo character is the kind of no-good philanderer who cavorts with girls in

I think the best thing that could happen to the Rock’s career would be to take away his creative control and put it into the hands of those more capable. I find the Rock to be incredibly charismatic, but 95% of his movies are insipid crap. I’d much rather see movies by his market replacements, David Bautista and John

To be clear, you believe that Krasinski, after his first date with his future wife, literally sent her a “memo” about her jacket?

It is nearly impossible to watch that clip and conclude that Krasinski ever actually made any comment about the jacket, let alone sent a post-date “memo.” It was clearly an extemporaneous joke by Blunt about herself and the jacket, not her husband. This take goes beyond cynicism and into bad faith.

Also pertinent information from the LA Times article:

According to Stanford (per the LA Times and other outlets), the alleged sexual assault was “an unwanted kiss.” That seems like pertinent info, particularly where the linked article never mentions “rape.”
