I thought the same thing! But apparently infield fly can only be called if there are runners on first and second. I feel like a dummy now, because all these years when people mention how confusing the rule is, I always think ‘no it isn’t, what’s the big deal?’ But clearly I haven’t even understood it myself this whole…

There needs to be a forceout at 3rd (runners on 1st and 2nd) for the infield fly rule.
