Not really. I mean, this video was from 1996, which is exactly one year after they started doing the offset frontal crash tests. Which means that this (and every single other vehicle sold before 1995) wasn’t designed for it. Crash an NA Miata using the same test and it’d probably fare about the same.

I don’t think the majority of enthusiasts realize how important this car is. This is a DD-able supercar with the weight of GM’s infrastructure behind it. I am buying one, for certain. There will be plenty not to like and a lot of the croc-wearing, Hawaiian shirt donning traditionalists will be keeping their C7s, but…

GM used to loan out these 2WD versions to some Formula SAE teams in the 1990s. We had one really good driver on our team. I can attest that a Astro is capable of drifting all the way around a cloverleaf entrance ramp. GM stopped loaning out vans after some idiots climbed up on the roof to watch the action and caved…
