But that’s not what Eastwood and Affleck did. They literally changed critical facts for dramatic flair and passed their work off as “a true story” when it very much wasn’t.

They should though. The birth control one infuriated me. Hobby Lobby believes they cause abortions, which is not true, but at no point did Hobby Lobby bear any burden of proof for their beliefs.

Actually I know that Scientologists are hardcore anti-vaxxers. Somehow in my 20's I met a huge group of second generation ones; A decade later, I am still connected to some of them on Facebook, and they are all extreme anti-vax.

Apropos of nothing, when I was a kid in the 80s, I once wrote to Weird Al with my brilliant parody idea for Culture Club’s “Miss Me Blind.” It went “I know you’re mince meat, I know you’re mince meat. I know you’re mince meat piiieeeeeeeeee.”

This seems like blaming veganism when the problem is the parents. You can malnourish a child on literally any diet.

Are you seriously lumping veganism in with anti-vaxxers? Yes, a few unwell folks made news for feeding their children unbalanced veg diets, but that does not mean veganism is unhealthy in general (in fact study after study shows it is in many ways the healthiest dietary choice) and even if it’s not it’s certainly not

seeing as you just listed some unsupported claims that basically amt to nothing it’s hard to relate.

but to counter your “miserable drek” Us accomplishes things on multiple levels. First, the simple fact of a movie centered on a black family is groundbreaking enough, add that into a horror/suspense dynamic, and again

it’s funny when you can use your religion to both protect your bodily autonomy from vaccines and restrict the bodily autonomy of women.

Golden Showers Corral.

A few things...

It sucks too because the problem Olivia mentioned with how female sexuality is treated in relation to feminism is a real one. It just does not apply at all to this situation she's trying to justify.

Scruggs, who died in 2001, did not sleep with someone to get the story, so the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is demanding the movie release a clear statement exonerating Scruggs.

Exacly. If you really have to show her as a sexy character, then have her go home and cuddle up to her partner or go have a one night stand with someone who is not a source. This plays into the BS stereotypes that fuel misogynists that all women have to offer our looks.

Wilde continued, “It’s a basic misunderstanding of feminism as pious, sexlessness. It happens a lot to women; we’re expected to be one-dimensional if we are to be considered feminists. There’s a complexity to Kathy, as there is to all of us, and I really admired her.”

Since we’re talking about kids and politicians, check out this kid’s thoughts on Ontario Premier Doug Ford...

Love those ideas. Imentioned this in a thread about the new Fantasy Island, which is being rebooted as a horror movie.

Reboots, meh, revisionist remakes, I’m all in.

Hordes of hungry dead are threatened but instead a destructive bull is sent from heaven.

I don’t disagree with 95% of what you’ve said - but I don’t think “labor” or any other materialistic economics language is required to describe any of it. My feeling is that we think of fundamental parts of ourselves - our feelings, our relationships - as commodities, we end up in a place where we’re sending lawyerly

I feel that when we internalize a conception of human relationships as commodities, we’re abandoning something fundamental to our humanity.
