As a Londoner, I can tell you that they’re not really any cheaper than minicab companies or other app-based minicab operations. It’s that Black Cabs are a super-expensive prestige kind of option, not that Uber are all that cheap. But even that pricing is something they manage by ignoring laws and regulations.

That’s actually only half-true. They’re quite similar in price to minicab companies, just not black cabs, and their main competition is minicab companies.
