Taking a chance on it. If it works well enough, I'll cancel my cable; if it doesn't, I'll take advantage of the 30-day money-back guarantee. Win-win.

I mostly use Twitter and texting, Facebook for longer-form stuff if I'm contacting someone who's active, Gmail chat and email for most of the rest. Occasionally I use Skype.

Digging that. Well done.

Believe me, I've tried. Time Warner is unfortunately the only service provider that prevents you from accessing ESPN3 if you don't have an appropriate cable package already. It's incredibly stupid. Also, I'm not interested in getting an Xbox just for ESPN. When there's something I really need to see, I find a

We cut cable a couple months ago, and I'm hurting for live sports. That's been the only real drawback.

Alton Brown's books are great. He tends to explain everything really well. The only slightly annoying thing is that he tends to favor measurement of dry ingredients by weight instead of volume.

If you're in an east coast state, I highly recommend EMS' store-brand socks. Really nice, and about half the price of SmartWool.

My recommendation, for those who favor the "envelope method" of budgeting, is...wait for it...Budget. The main downsides are that the stand-alone Mac app is $40, and you'd still need to spend $6 on the app (which works fantastically on the iPad, by the way). Hmm... I think I'm going to have to try this. Our trash can holds onto odors unbelievably well, and this would be a welcome change.

Water's pretty unnecessary. Either deglaze with some sort of stock or alcohol, or throw in some extra grease (lard, preferably), get it really warm, and wipe it out. Use salt if that doesn't work.

I would only recommend it if you have a good season on the pan, and, like Romberry says, if you don't leave the stuff in the cast iron.

I go with the combo card thing, but this is a really fantastic idea.

I'll be pretty sad if they get rid of the iPod Classic. I have way more than 64 gigs of music that I take with me pretty much everywhere. If they do release a new iPod Touch, they're really gonna have to up the storage.

I live an hour from Rochester, and I'm proud to say I've never had a garbage plate. I just keep thinking of how I'll feel the morning after.

Whoa, I eat at Smoke's all the time! But I've definitely never had that.
