Turn it of so it cannot get tracked, and then plug it into iTunes to restore the phone. Then it is like a new again, and cannot get tracked.

What Apple should do, is to enable the ability to put passcode to turn the phone off. The robbers have to drain the battery first then, which might take some time. :)
