@rev_junkie: Okay, first, I was talking about the possibility of this model being another A8 with a W12 badge. Second, VW calls it W engine because when you look at them "from the front" the cylinder angle makes a W.
But more importantly: is it really a W12?
@gman1023: It's known that 2004 Phaetons had a nice air strut arrangement that if one goes out you have to replace all four. That's 4k a strut, an Alpine of repairs. AFAIK this little design fault was corrected in 2005.
As a client of Santander I can say, yes, they're crap.
