Oh Vicky, you are truly a simple minded commenter. You obviously don’t understand contemporary Blackness and parading around and commenting that you are biracial is not doing anything but making you look more like a fool. You haven’t even attempted to address my major points about whiteness because you clearly can’t

Lol, you are ridiculous. Newsflash: Everyone you meet does not have to give you an accounting of their fucking DNA, no matter how they look. Someone identifying as Black is not saying they are not biracial. That you can’t understand that is baffling for a supposedly biracial person.

I don’t know if I believe you are actually a half-Black person. If you are, you are very uneducated about Blackness in America. If you are, it isn’t your business how other people who choose to embrace their Blackness live and define themselves.

“regular church” Is a “Black church” irregular? And if so, how?

My two sons who are biracial: Black mom/White dad, both self identify as Black. Our eldest is pale-ish with sandy blond hair and blues eyes. Our youngest is light carmel with black hair and deep brown eyes. I never questioned why they chose Black, but I surmised it’s because of the huge amount of racist ass white

What? They are black, they arent passing for black.

Tell me what do you think being white is? The white that I know is steeped in oppression, privilege and atrocious acts to support white supremacy. Most white people don’t even think about being white; that’s the freedom of being white and in many ways a prison of ignorance as well. It sounds like you know fuck all

Most mixed Black people can’t pass for white - look at our president. Does he look like a white man to you? He is not “passing” for Black, he simply is Black. No matter what he calls himself - Black or biracial- he is not white. And I bet you see Black people all the time who don’t look like the exotic fantasy of what

Personally, I identify as my minority half, because that’s the half by which society treats me. Imagine trying to tell some racist mofo “hey man, I’m half white.” If that’s worked once in history I’ll be surprised.

I’m 6'1". He’s eight years old and up to the middle of my chest already. It’s probably going to happen on the basketball court. I don’t think I’m ready to get posterized....

My husband is half black, 1/4 Puerto Rican and 1/4 Italian. He identifies as black. I think that is because he culturally and visually identifies that way.

My nephew is half Vietnamese and half Latino and he gets that “Biracial babies are the cutest!” He said it makes him feel like a dog someone is considering buying.

On the flip side, I have experienced discrimination and ostracism within the Indian community—people who want me to somehow prove I am Indian.

Similar experience. Also have witnessed many a white folk unwittingly reveal themselves to be bigots while unaware of the *other* infiltrating their midst.

I suspect that’s mostly based on Obama’s skin tone. If he were a few shades lighter, “biracial” would probably be applied more often than it currently is.

there are lots of dangerous stereotypes about women of color too. our womanhood is often denied in the process, and we are lumped in with men. we are seen as physical threats a lot as well, just like black men. police brutality toward women and girls of color as well as the responses of teachers and school officials

I think it’s simpler than that. If you’re a black man, the police think you’re black and are therefore more likely to fuck with you. So you better integrate that into your person so you can deal with the police appropriately (with fear, lots and lots of fear).

Obama is black by white people rules (one drop). As it stands, white people’s rules are everyone’s rules in America.

For now.

Or maybe men are more realistic and realize, that a western (predominantely caucasian) society by and large will always judge by the overriding ‘exotic’ (read: non-white) look. I assume, a red haired pale skinned Asian-White person would be rather seen as white in an Asian country.
