I don’t think anyone’s arguing they should. Children who commit horrific crimes are still children, and the juvenile justice system exists for a reason. 

The recidivism rate for kids who commit murder is almost nonexistent. You aren’t protecting society, just protecting the violent and bloodthirsty prison industrial complex to sate your desire for punishment.
