So can we finally lay to rest the lie that thin women have the privilege of walking around in public without getting negative comments on their appearance? Good. Because I'm almost as tired of hearing that bullshit as I am of hearing that I must be anorexic.

I spent my adult life as a military spouse and at Nellis AFB we had an incident where a woman was speeding up to and through the gates. The concrete barriers deployed & she was killed. Some people had the same reaction: why did you have to go so far? Dude, a car is speeding through a barricaded entrance to a military

Now playing

Watch this video and then tell me if you think the cops overreacted. Raw footage of her being surrounded, backing into a crusier, then gunning it through a group of cops. Absolutely tragic that it came to the ending it did. I don't see any other outcome however. No shooting the tires, aiming for the leg or any other

I woke up to my cousin having posted something about what a tragedy it was that they had to kill this "unarmed" mother of a young child. I guess it's beyond her that a) a car is a weapon, especially the way she was using it, and b) she wasn't exactly doing this on the streets of Stamford, or even New York. There are

Besides the fallacy of not shooting to kill (you pull your weapon, you shoot to kill), the woman used her car as a weapon and was putting other people's lives in danger (there were loads of pedestrians around). She utterly destroyed at least one cop car in the process, and directly rammed and/or (depending on reports)

If a cop shoots at all, they to intend to kill. That is standard procedure at every police department in America, and it is a good policy. It prevents there ever being a situation in which the police only intended to wound, and end up accidentally killing a suspect. Just a recipe for disaster.

you mean she wasn't a brown male and wasn't screaming "durka durka mohammed jihad"?

I know you have active duty experience, but I don't really understand why ramming the gates at the White House is incompatible with behaving like a bomber? I feel like news reports of bombers always talk about them ramming gates, and I'm not sure that the equipment is always visible, so ... basically, can you explain

Yeah, because that was clear information from her multiple attempts to use her vehicle as a weapon. I am sure they were like "guys, this women just rammed the gate then tried to run over the cops, lets give her some room to see what happens next."

The country needs to discuss mental illness in a way that brings awareness and decreases stigma for those who suffer from it. There has to be a way to help those in need without stigmatizing them for getting help. I think that is an issue that isn't discussed. If you get help for a mental illness, people*

She had already used her vehicle as weapon multiple times. Officer safety is the number one priority in these situations and dead people are fairly safe.

There is no such thing as "shooting to injure."

She ran into a cop car with cops in and around it, putting them all in danger. Also she ran into a gate with a 1 year old in her car. You still think that trying to mow people down with a vehicle and crashing a car with a child in it is "not a danger to anyone but herself"?

You always aim for center mass. Always. Shooting in the limbs only works in film.

She rammed the gate at the White House, fled the cops past two barricades, and was headed toward the Capitol. I think that if you're the Metro Police, at that point you have to assume the worst (suicide bomber or similar).

"Did the cops really have to shoot Carey?"

Reports have said that her child is OK.

She says it's "biker chick," and while I have no idea where she got that phrase from

This is wonderful! And I'm totally not crying.

She is smizing better than Tyra in that first photo.
