It is my opinion that the critics of this game are probably looking at reputation as well. Ninja Theory has never produced a game with great combat, serviceable yes, but not great.

Agreed, the variety and versatility provided by the combat mechanics in Bayonetta is in a whole other level. I'm giving Ninja Theory a chance with the whole angel/ demon "hold left or right trigger" mechanic in this title, but admittedly they haven't produced a game yet with great combat.
