"Photograph" was a pretty good song… but of course the one that turned out to be a massive hit was awful.

Having only heard "Walk the Dinosaur" I was surprised to find out how much critics loved them in their day. And deservingly so— songs like "Wheel Me Out" and "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming" are killer.

I like the one-hit wonder category of "people who had more interesting things to do than record pop songs." You don't have to feel bad for them.

There's a ton of stuff that just doesn't fit into our modern radio formats, which have become very rigid.

Two more obscurities from the 80s:

Amazingly, Romeo Void's only Top 40 it was not "Never Say Never."

I was surprised "Cruel to be Kind" and "Starside" from Resident Alien didn't do squat. I was hugely disappointed in The Chinese Album, though.

"Galaxie" was a great song. Too bad the only thing anyone remembers about it is Shannon Hoon having a mental breakdown in the video.

I've been listening to the syndicated Casey Kasem charts from the 80s religiously on Sunday nights, and one of my favorite things is when the follow-ups from artists considered "one-hitters" today come on. Often they're quite good!

"Woodface" was such a good album, too. The singles from that did OK on the alternative charts… unfortunately not much from the pre-grunge 90s gets played on alternative rock stations anymore.

Devo and Talk Talk are on my personal slit-your-throat list.

The opening track on that album, "Mother We Just Can't Get Enough" was a fantastic uptempo number. Unfortunately, Alexander had already thrown in the towel on being a frontman.

The Spinners… what?

U2 basically ripped off the "Touch me…" section of "The Sun Always Shines on TV" (which hit #20) for "Beautiful Day"

It's dumb but I love that Italo-disco stuff.

At least technically she has that Owl City collab. More one-hit wonders I like oughta team up to beat the tag.

"The Love Parade" kind of sucks, too. Whoever picked that as the next single to get serious support hopefully got fired. The cover of "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" would have been better too.

Dream Academy's "Life in a Northern Town" — I can only attribute the fact that "The Edge of Forever" didn't chart at all (I can't even find a video online) to promotional malpractice. It was in "Ferris Bueller," for God's sake!

T'Pau's "Heart and Soul" — they had more hits in the U.K. (Including a number one), and damn right, they deserved them. Sort of a late-80s ABBA, or Roxette with, uh, heart and soul. Two fine albums in "Bridge of Spies" and "The Promise." But goddamn if the big hit isn't one of the most one of a kind singles of its

Harvey Danger's "King James Version" was an excellent follow-up album. I wouldn't have minded hearing those songs on the radio, but hey, nu-metal.
