"I am 100% behind her…"
Phrasing?

Haven't read Franzen, but that Gawker review is hyperbolic and highly overwrought. I may give Purity a try just because someone is trying so hard to dissuade me from read it.

This "digested read" from the Guardian was hilarious. Warning: contains spoilers and may put you off reading the book:

Are you applying real world logic or Elliot logic? As socially inept as he is, he rolls in the sack, then regrets and kicks her out, yelling. Then from second ep onward, he's much more timid and tentative.
I haven't re-watched the episodes, but it seemed like a gear change at the time, not a smooth transition to a

Bit of a disconnect between Elliot and Shayla having sex in the pilot, then making their relationship more tender in subsequent episodes. Maybe the Shayla character was retuned after the pilot was picked up for series?

Most of the piracy Hollywood complains about begins overseas. Movies open up early internationally and Americans who don't want to wait resort to torrenting. So if they truly want to curb piracy, never open overseas first, regardless of local convenience.

Anyone have odds on how quickly the studio will complain about piracy before the American release?
Why they even do this?

I liked Shame, though it's been a long time since I read it. The novel gave me a fascination with Benazir Bhutto and seemed to be predictive of what later happened to her. Not sure how relevant the Pakistani historical context is these days. Maybe there are still gems in there.

"shifting debt around is the only reason banks exist…"
Exactly what happened with the housing bubble and the complicated credit default swaps that were meant to hide how risky the underlying debt was. People bought expensive houses they had no likelihood of ever paying off. This bad debt was disguised as good and

The government would step in and give the banks that money. They already gave twice as much (maybe more?) in 2008, almost no questions asked.
This aspect or Mr Robot's overarching plot recreates the last global financial crisis, from which we seem to have learned nothing.

Will and Hannibal will be married and adopt Clarice…

Dexter?

That too. Makes me want to listen to the soundtrack again. "Wave of Mutilation" is a twisted surf song. Also, think I liked Concrete Blonde more than anyone I knew.

That's how I viewed the use of Sonic Youth, a callback to Pump Up the Volume.

Why's the lady on the train have a parrot on her shoulder? Didn't notice that while watching the episode.

Same story/plot as Man in the Wilderness (1971), with Richard Harris in the role. Why was the book a hot property?

Penis Cola? Has anyone trademarked that yet?

Kinda glad I don't read or buy comics regularly anymore. This constant churn and restarting with number 1s has got to be irritating to collectors. Plus the "all-new all-different" hype/tag is bald-faced bullshit.

"I started to take on his taste, and I’m an amateur at having his taste—I’m good at my kind of taste."
… Soo, they tasted each other?

Have no idea, besides the guitar antics..
