I would disagree with you on the "almost" part, except that Costco sells some gift cards below face value, making them worthwhile purchases. I do this for myself with iTunes gift cards since it's easy to drain the card completely and allows me to set a budget on app and media purchases. Otherwise, cash is better.

@NoneMorePaul: It's actually worse than that. Trying to charge two iPhones (my new one and old one) from it causes both to fail because the amperage is shared between the two ports.
