Unless you are a major threat to society or a legitimate flight risk, you should not be sitting in jail before your trial. Period. The system we have now just lets the rich skip right on back to their lives while poor people sit in jail for the same crime. Combined with the fact that you can’t afford a lawyer and the

The ability to “make bail” has an enormous, and at times all-encompassing impact on indigent people’s ability to contest the case against them at trial, and pretrial motions such as a motion to suppress an unlawful search, etc.

Plenty of people skate by, myself included. Working hard enough to not be in trouble is a thing, and works very well IMO. I can’t speak to your company or situation, just my own, but I started 3 years ago, got a bonus and a raise, and would have expected the same for someone working harder than I was.

Also part of white male privilege is that we’re taught to stand up for ourselves and challenge authority if we are being mistreated because “the worst they can say is no”. Minority populations face a different equation where there are more potential consequences than simple rejection. This sounds like one of the times

Say he wins, how much are his managers, who made the decision not to give him a bonus, going to like that challenge to their decision? How would that impact his review the following year? Best to cut your losses and find a better

Anecdotal evidence: A close coworker of mine didn’t get a bonus or a raise this year. Keep in mind he got 4/5 on his evaluation (5/5 basically means you’re being promoted), is friendly with everyone on the team, shows up early, the whole 9 yards. Their reason? “You weren’t here for the full year so you’re not eligible

“Additionally, the deputy’s responses are not consistent with the interpretation of the law,” McMahon said in his statement.

There is probably a correct word for it, but damned if I can think of one. They aren’t people in emergency situations (as in they aren’t calling 911), they are people that the police are to serve, I guess just call it “service” or “assistance”.

“John McMahon, who said that the employees’ responses were “not consistent” with his expectation of customer service.”
