I've never heard of a case where people are reinstated, I know people who have been banned for unintentionally joining a lobby on WAW and MS wont do shit to help you. Also in the terms MS say they can ban you for no reason whatsoever.

A much more serious glitch happened with their rewards point program a few months ago where users could generate infinite codes on their website, I got about 12k points from it, a friend of mine got A LOT of codes which in real money was worth about $2.4 million. MS deactivated the codes a day or two later…

Their banning policy is really messed up sometimes, a couple of months ago I redeemed about 12,000 Microsoft points with that exploit on their site which give free points, for this they decided not to take any action on anyone and said it was their fault.
